Getting A Green MBA Will Help You And The Planet!

Those who are interested in getting their MBA degree are discovering a new possibility besides such standard fare as Accounting and Economics. It’s an MBA in a discipline called Sustainability; i.e. examining the economic aspects of investing in replenishable resources and green technology. A number of universities, both online and on campus, have programs devoted to it, and it is growing.

As someone with even the slightest green consciousness is starting to realize, the world is facing an ecological crisis of epic proportions. The planet can not simply replace the resources as fast as the human population is depleting it. Those who getting their MBAs in Sustainability are studying the economic costs of replacing current wasteful methods with ones that are “sustainable;” i.e. easily replenishable. If this interests you, then you should read more about english graduate degree.

Sustainability is built around a system called “the Triple Bottom Line.” It’s a method of dividing problems into three different categories; economic, environmental, and social sustainability. For example, transitioning from an oil-based to wind or solar power is considered an economic issue. Global warming, if it really does exist, is environmental. Something much more definite, overpopulation, falls into the sustainability category.

Those interested in this “Green MBA,” still have to go to college and get an appropriate undergraduate degree. From there, they still have to go on and pass the GMAT before enrolling in an MBA program of choice. What the post-grad candidate should now look for is a school that offers an actual MBA in some form of Sustainability. There are a growing number of both on campus and online colleges that offer these programs, and the number is expected to be growing. Search the internet and learn about online classes.

Therefore, one should do their own share of research before enrolling in a school offering the program. Not only should they drill career counselors about the program, but do actual research on the school and check for referrals, too. No doubt there are legitimate programs out there but, as with any new program, the buyer should be wary.

As for curriculum, besides the standard MBA course load in economics, more refined accounting and marketing principles, one should expect at minimum courses in environmental sciences and other similar topics. This does not mean one will also end up being an environmental economist. This occupation approaches the same issues from a technical and engineering point of view. Those who go for Sustainability come more from the financial side.

It should be noted that Green MBAs are also not approved by everyone in the business community. More traditional MBA schools feel that a true businessman is only concerned with the business of business, not in saving the world. Of course, this argument that if the planet’s ecology isn’t addressed soon, there isn’t going to be much of a world left to do business in.You may also find interest in online degrees.

As it stands, it should be remembered that this is a very new area for those who once considered themselves the masters of the universe. They realize the economic costs of a global ecologic disaster would make something like the BP Oil spill in the Gulf Coast look picayune in comparison. So while there may be some controversy about this new form of business degree, it looks like Sustainability will be a career path with one incredible future ahead of it.

As Technology Improves, So Does Online School!

Online education is exploding across the nation as one of the fastest growing educational tools.  From nursing to education to business, people are adapting to the online format as a way to quickly and efficiently complete their educational goals.  From associates to bachelors and onward to masters degrees, students realize that online education can help them achieve the dream of a degree. Be sure to read more about college distance learning.

One of the most common reasons for the rise in online growth is the convenience factor.  Students have the freedom to schedule their classes where and when they choose.  They also have the flexibility to go to school even if they have to work full time, because they can complete their studies at home around their own schedule instead of on someone else’s timetable.  Online coursework also allows adults who have other responsibilities like families to attend to those duties, and to do coursework during their free time.  The low cost of online courses is also a great feature that attracts students.

Online growth is happening across the nation.  In New Jersey, one college is planning to increase its online enrollment by 20% over five years, and in Louisiana a community college experienced an explosion in online enrollment, by almost 50%, in just a single year.  These large jumps in online enrollment are good news for colleges, because they lead to revenue streams that will help overcome drops in giving due to the economy.  More revenue also means better programs for students and a higher quality of education. If this interests you, there is much more information on certificate programs online.

Of course, all of this growth doesn’t come without a few growing pains.  Colleges and universities are constantly being faced with new challenges as they decide how to grow their online course offerings, while maintaining the high standard of quality that their students expect.  One of the best ways that schools have seen to face these challenges is to adopt new communication and platform technologies as they become available to better connect staff and students.

Another facet of online education that colleges and universities must face is the differing needs of each particular course of study.  Departments and professors may use a particular type of technology for certain classes that are unique.  An example of this would be the use of discussion boards for a verbal heavy class like an MBA class.  A nursing class, which requires more graphic and visual teaching aids, might use digital slides to teach particular surgical procedures or anatomy lessons.

Most online classes, however, use a combination of types of technology to impart the learning material to students.  From discussion rooms to video lessons or tutorials to PowerPoint presentations, instructors will work to make the class interesting and engaging with a variety of approaches.  In this way, students are less likely to lose interest or become bored by just reading material that is online. See what else there is on the internet about distance learning masters.

Buying books for college classes has long been an expensive hassle for students.  Standing in long lines or waiting on the mail to get expensive textbooks that will only be used for one semester can be frustrating.  Online classes that use e-books can typically save a student up to 30% on the cost of their books, plus they are available instantly.

An online education isn’t a solitary experience.  Students taking regular classes expect certain support systems to be in place to help them with their college education as they pursue their degree.  Online classes have the same support systems available at the click of a mouse.  Digital libraries, online tutoring, or technical support are all available for online students.  As new technologies keep developing, there are more options for online students, including access to some video lessons or digital libraries by smart phone or digital audio players.
