Green Living: Make A Difference To Your World With These Strategies

How you can make a difference to our environment with green living strategies. Every strategy that you implement will help; if everyone does what you now do, there will be a huge improvement. These few simple ideas for green living are easy to put into your lifestyle. Green living refers to the type of lifestyle we can choose to adopt that aims to limit our impact on the environment.

Scientists believe that carbon is a major contributor to global warming and green living strategies look at ways to reduce carbon, waste products, toxins and the exploitation of natural resources. Save money and become more healthy by implementing these green strategies.

There are numerous changes you can make in your lifestyle to reduce carbon emissions. Find other ways to travel instead of jumping in your car. Take public transport or car pool to work. Get some exercise and improve your fitness by leaving the car at home and walking. So, improve your health and help to save the planet at the same time.

CFLs are compact fluorescent light bulbs which use less power to produce more light, so change over the bulbs on your home to save money and the environment. These bulbs will reduce the amount of power you use for lighting and they also last longer. Did you know that replacing only 5 incandescent light bulbs, your power bills will reduce by $50 a year, so replacing all these bulbs in your house will save you lots more? Switch all appliances off at the socket when they are not being used.

Grow your own vegetables and help the environment, because plants take carbon from the air and hold it in the soil. This is great way of helping both the environment and yourself. Cattle compact the soil and produce large amounts of methane which is a harmful greenhouse gas. Poultry and fish have little impact on the planet and they are better for your health than red meat.

Reduce your environmental footprint by putting the three Rs into place – reduce, reuse and recycle. Reduce your dependence on plastic products; plastic is made from oil and it releases large volumes of carbon and toxins into the air during its manufacture. Use your own bags for shopping, like your grandmother did, and reduce the amount of plastic bags in landfill. Reuse paper, limit the quantity you use and recycle what you need to use. Think up new ways to reuse and recycle plastic bottles and containers.

Reduce the amount of water you use in the home. By reducing your shower time by just 2 minutes will save a significant amount of water. Never turn taps on full; much of that water is wasted as it runs down the sink. Reuse washing machine water on the garden. Research ways to reduce the impact of your home on the environment; consider planting trees, installing solar heating and hot water and using blinds to control the temperature.

These are only a few of the many ways you can make changes that will benefit the environment. You can learn about many other ways you can help both the environment and your own well-being and health. Have your children contribute to reducing the family’s environmental footprint.
